Families In Harmony are inviting you to join their free event, Improving Racial Equity In Kinship Care: Jamaica to UK Insights from The Churchill Fellowship Research, online, on Thursday, 14 November, 2.00 – 4.30pm. This event provides the opportunity for kinship carers, children’s social care practitioners, researchers, academics, therapists, teachers, educators, family support organisations, community & faith leaders and anyone interested in improving racial equity within the UK to hear directly from their peers in Jamaica. Speakers and Presenters include Director of Child Protection & Family Support Agency, Chair of Jamaica Association of Social Workers, University of West indies Social Work Lecturer and Jamaica’s Lead Professor in ‘Barrel Children’ & Culturally Specific Play Therapy. As part of the review of children’s social care, ‘Stable Homes Built on Love’ and the recent ‘Championing Kinship Care Strategy’ discussion have amplified around how to build trust and improve services and support for African, Caribbean and Black Mixed Heritage Families. Our Churchill Fellowship research trip provided much insight as to how the lessons from ‘Windrush Migration’ and the ‘Barell Children’ syndrome can be used to pick up the momentum in improving racial equity in children’s social care here in the UK. Join us to hear how kinship care which became a phenomenon in the Caribbean due to Windrush economic migration, has contributed to the evolution of children’s social care practices and state welfare assistance in Jamaica, and what we in the UK can learn from this. Register for this event using the link below. As places are limited, we encourage early booking. Thursday 14 November 2024 2:00pm–4:30pm If you have any questions or queries, please email info@familiesinharmony.org.uk
