Hi fellows, I'm a former PSW (and a while back a Frontline practice tutor). I'm working on my own project, the Child Safeguarding Decision Lab. The focus is on expertise in judgement and decision-making. Research on professional expertise shows that experienced professionals make better decisions using different cognitive processes. There is good evidence that you can model these expert decision processes through roleplays and guidance, speeding up the process of 'becoming an expert'. I've built a web app to deliver these roleplay scenarios, and I've started building a community of experts. I would love to hear from fellows who are interested in: 1. Signing up to try out the initial scenarios. 2. Contributing their expertise through writing a scenario and sharing their expert thinking. I will do this will you, and estimate it will take around 2 hours of your time in total. 3. Have a 20 min conversation with me on the theme "The most skillful example of practice I've seen or been involved with", which I will turn into an anonymised written piece, and which will also contribute to the emerging model of what children's safeguarding expertise actually is. This isn't a commercial product at this stage, but in the future there may be opportunities for paid 'expert contributions'. I really like the idea of helping skilled and experienced social workers share their wisdom with newer professionals. Even more I am inspired by the idea of building recognition of children's social work's professional expertise and how skillful and knowledgable experienced social worker are! Anyway, take a look, sign up, and tell me what you think. www.safeguardinglab.co.uk
