October 1st marks the start of Black History month – which is an opportunity for everyone to share and celebrate Black culture, history, and heritage. This year’s theme is #SalutingOurSisters, where we celebrate the achievements of all Black women and the role they’ve played in shaping society. Not only do we celebrate their achievements, but we also honour and remember Black women throughout history, and even today, who continue to inspire, support, and build up those around them. Black History month is an opportunity to celebrate, but it also reminds us that there is still more work to be done to tackle acts of racism and discrimination that many children and families still face. We use this month to learn and continue to raise awareness about how we can continue to be better allies to Black communities.
